Tuff Pup Size Guide

Your dog's size is decided by one measurement: head circumference. Not their breed, not their weight, not how big they look. It takes 30 seconds.

A snug fit is how it works. The wrap needs to sit firmly around the head to block noise effectively, so it will feel tight. That's normal and intended. A loose wrap won't do its job.

Step 1: Measure your dog's head

You need a soft tape measure (or a piece of string and a ruler). Have a treat ready.

1

Find the spot

Wrap the tape around your dog's head just behind the ears.

2

Keep it snug

Pull the tape snug against the fur, so it sits close to the head without sliding. Measure over the coat as it naturally lies.

3

Read the number

Note it in inches or cm, then use the finder below or the chart.

Step 2: Check the size chart

S
Small breeds
Chihuahua, Pug, Jack Russell
Head circumference

25–38cm
M
Medium breeds
Cocker Spaniel, Beagle, Border Collie
Head circumference
14–19"
35–48cm
L
Large breeds
Labrador, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd
Head circumference

Breeds are examples only. Dogs of the same breed vary a lot. If the measurement and the breed example disagree, go with the measurement.

Between two sizes? Order the bigger one

The size ranges overlap slightly, so some dogs fit two sizes on paper. If your dog's measurement falls in an overlap, choose the larger size.

If your dog measures Order
25–34.9cm (10–13.7") Small
35–38cm (13.8–15")  between Small and Medium Medium
38.1–44.9cm (15–17.7") Medium

Measuring in inches? Convert to cm (× 2.54) or use the finder above, which does it for you.

Common sizing mistakes

  • Ordering by weight or "how big they feel" instead of measuring the head.
  • Choosing by breed name alone. A broad-headed or stocky dog can sit a size above the breed example.
  • Measuring too loosely with the tape hanging off the head, which gives a number that's too big.
  • Using a different dog's size. Same-breed dogs and siblings often differ.

Sizing questions

The wrap feels tight. Is that right?

Yes. It's designed to fit snugly around the head, because that firm fit is what lets it block noise effectively. It should feel secure, not painful. If your dog seems distressed or the wrap looks like it's digging in, take it off and check your measurement.

My dog is between two sizes. Which one?

Order the larger size.

I'm not sure about my breed or my dog is a mix.

That's fine, ignore breed completely and use the tape measure. Head circumference is all that matters.

My dog won't stay still to be measured.

Use a piece of string, wrap it round just behind the ears, mark where it meets, then hold it against a ruler. A treat and a second pair of hands helps.

My puppy is still growing.

Measure again before ordering and size for today's measurement. Puppies' heads change quickly, so re-measure if some time has passed.
